What fight/fights did you watch today?

Allright fellas, this thread is for anyone who wishes to share with the rest of us what fight or fight they watched today. If you want to post some thoughts and observations on the bout you watched then by all means do so, but if you just want to post the fights with no comment that is fine too.

Today I didn`t get the chance to watch anything, but yesterday I did watch Ayub Kalule outpoint Marian Benes in a entertaining fight, Benes was built like a tank but kept winging the wildest haymakers I have seen in some time. Kalule just took a step back each time and countered with his straight shots down the pipe, but this Benes guy was tough and just kept on coming all night, hard fought win for Kalule.

I also watched Kevin Finnegan outpoint hard hitting Frenchman Gratien Tonna over twelve rounds, followed by Kev`s win over Tony Sibson for the British Middleweight Title. Tonna had Kevin on the mat twice in the 3rd round, well actually he took a standing eight count first and then got sent to the canvas half a minute later by a left hook. Tonna punched himself out though trying to put Finnegan away and Kevin actually came back to stun the Frenchman towards the end of the round and won the fight going away from that point onwards.

The Sibbo fight looked to me to be a fairly even contest, I only have 5 rounds of the fight to base my opinion on though so I can`t gie an accurate description but from the round shown Kevin looked to have a light edge and I had him winning four of the rounds they showed. That Sibson though was one powerfully built man, huge upper body and what a left hook he had, loved the way he used to double even triple up on it, a real wrecking ball on a chain that left hook was.

    Anyway, thats all for now.

Yeah, I read about your Finnegan experience in the thread I opened about his brother.

    Today I watched Joe Louis-Abe Simon. That's a shellacking.

This is a great thread/sticky thread idea.

I watched just one today on youtube, McCallum vs. Curry, for the first time in a long while.

While Curry was definitely starting to find a home for that right hand, he wouldn't have lasted. That left eye was getting angrier by the minute and he had been backing away from counters consistently until the fateful punch landed. It was really a matter of time.

Just a couple of youtube clips. Some Don Curry stuff that sweet pea posted in the modern forum, a few bits and pieces of Chavez fights and John Conteh vs Len Hutchins.

The ending is quite comical, as both guys go for the left hook at exactly the same time while exchanging up close.Hutchins brings a ridiculously wide shot up from the ringmat, while Conteh compensates for an almost square on stance with an awesome short hook.

Yep, first time I saw this last week I thought Forest would keep him at the end of that jab and pivot around him for a few rounds. Tszyu was awesome as an amateur and yes, he COMPLETELY controlled the distance.

    Eubank v. Watson II.

Eubank was so exciting, had so much heart, and I feel terrible for what happened to Watson. Those euro middles/super middles really crashed those divisions and made some great fights...and too bad Watson and G-Man had to fall in the process.

Right now, Calderon vs Verde @ 105lbs in 2005. Although Calderon is outclassing him in the 9th round, he is NOT doing enough and is a little too comfortable coasting in this particular match.

    definitely

I didn't watch any fights today (monday); I just rewatched Pac/DLH 24/7 (im trying to see if Khan got dropped....they cut right when it looks like he did). But on Sunday I watched Marciano/LaStarza, Lopez/Vorapin and Lopez Charoen. Left me wondering what the hell happened to Charoen; he had great potential but only fought 3 or 4 more fights

Watched a 23 minute highlights clip of Johnny Owen's fight with Paul Ferreri for the Commonwealth Bantamweight title.

Was a real classy boxing match with Ferreri doing some real slick counter punching and Owen willing his way to victory with a nice solid workrate.

If only Ferreri had some punching power he could have been something special. Couldn't crack an egg though and couldn't get a world class opponent's respect, which ultimately left him vulnerable to points losses.

Still enjoy watching him box though, and being a Melbourne boy like Ferreri himself, I have a soft spot for him.

I found out that Googles videos has fights (I previously was only aware of Youtube). Watched 5 minute clip of Cerdan - Zale (wow, what a left hooker Cerdan was!), and highlights of Wilfred Benitez vs Hope and Duran. These were 2 Duran masterpieces. I can't believe how psyched out he had Duran. Benitez seemed a little more offensive minded in this fights.
