Just watched an interesting one though incomplete, about 6 or 7 rounds. Rafael Herrera vs Venice Borkorsor.
I thought Borkorsor the former WBC flyweight champ might of been unlucky in not becoming his country's first double champ here as he boxed a great fight from his southpaw stance. he continually moved backwards and to his left punishing Herrera by continually getting outside Herrera's right cross to land left hand counters flush. Rafael just couldn't deal with it and ended up badly banged up, specially round the right eye. It was one of the worst swellings I ever seen.
Herrera came forward throughout the fight and it was a gruelling battle for both men.
Rafael won a split decision with scores of 143-141, 144-142 and 141-145 Borkorsor. The unofficial upi score was 143-141 Borkorsor.
If anyones got the full fight I'd love to see it.
Funny enough I've just read up on Borkorsors title challenge against Rodolfo Martinez where it sounded like he was causing the same problems early on until Martinez worked it out and started switching between southpaw and orthodox.
Again Borkorsor took it to a split decision. On this occasion though in Thailand.
Venice, another one of those forgotten men.
Julio Cesar Vasquez-UD-Winky Wright(25-0):WBA LightMiddleweight
Winky lost a unanimous decision, with Vasquez knocking down Wright in the second, seventh, ninth, and twice in the round 12.
Julio Cesar Vasquez(ko11) Carl Daniels
He knocked out with a single straight left after trailing badly on points. The devastating 11th round knockout of Daniels was named Ring Magazine Knockout of the Year for 1995.
im watching alot of duran at the moment im very very impressed
I watched alot since I posted in this thread last, but in the last 24hrs I watched Lupe Aquino vs. McCrory & Royan Hammond, Virgil Hill vs. Abdul Hakim, Mugabi-Snow, Curry-Rosi, J.C.Chavez-R. Aguliar, Tyson-Tubbs and a few more from 1988. It's the year of tapes I'm on right now.
Wow nobody watched any fights since July!
I just watched Juan Coggi vs Eder Gonzalez, Wilfredo Vazquez vs. Yuichi Kassai and Cecilio Espino vs. Miguel Mercedes-doing that 1994 thing!
Watch some fights already!
LOL
i watched two, hearns vs cuevas and hearns vs duran, the hearns cuvas one was a laugh, cuevas was trying everthing to hit hearns i dont think cuevas even hit hearns once, when hearns hit cuevas with that thundering right cuevas looked like he just finished drinking a bottle of tequila, then when he got hit with the second he hit the canvas so hard that his face almost went through the ring, then the hearns duran fight was another laugh, duran i think hit hearns once or twice and they were both below the belt, then when hearns unloaded that right hand duran looked like had been shot at close range by a shot gun he went down head first like a tree, then when he got up a few minutes later with the help of smelling salts, the announcer asked him what happened and his responce was in that broken english i dont remember,no kidding he does not remember he got clobbered big time![]()
James 'Buddy' McGirt UD10 Tony Baltazar
Good, entertaining fight this one. It was a comeback fight of sorts for Baltazar who nailed Buddy with a beautiful left to the body then up to the head in the 2nd Rd.
McGirt recovered thereafter and looked very sharp, moving in & out, side to side all the time - consistently beating Tony to the punch with crisp 1-2 combinations.
Tony continued to stalk throughout the bout but just couldn't seem to get off after having success early in the fight - fatigue looked to be a factor here.
Definitely one to seek out - Baltazar was in plenty of entertaining scraps and both fighters showed plenty of heart & solid ringcraft in this one.
i saw cuevas/hearns,when cuevas got hit by that first right he looked like he just drank a bottle of aged tequila,i also saw duran/hearns,when duran got hit by hearns right duran went down like he just got shot from an elephant gun,he hit the canvas head first, when he awokened with the help of smelling salts,he said he does not remember,no kidding he does not remember he was out like a light,![]()
