    Thread About Running

How many of you guys run here on the forum?

If so, what is your routine? How long do you run, and for what types of distances?

Well im the wrong guy to ask since ive been rehabbing but my normal routine USED to be 3 miles per day 5 days a week which is what im still working towards. Just a slow but steady pace - about a 10 min mile pace that sometimes on my day out of the gym I would crank up to 20 minutes for my 3 miles, maxing myself out. I would also do sprints in the sandbox outside the gym (weather permitting of course) 1-2 days per week. Pretty much just sets of 3-5 sprints with a small break. We would also do sets of moutain climbers followed by jumping up in the air. They had a name, but I can't remember off hand......something like groupies or froggies or something. lol I might be a bit off there.....

    Re: Thread About Running

I dont run in the sense of once a week or something for a set period - but I'll run 10km, half a marathon etc. for charity should one pop up that i fancy doing. Dont bother training or anything - just go straight into the event and off we gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

    Probably not very helpful :P

I'd recommend going twice a week, one day you go for a steady jog aiming to run (when you've built it up) about 5miles or something similar, maybe 7.

The other do mixture of sprints, fast running, slow jogging (in the same setting) over a 3 mile period - that should help in your fitness, endurance, stamina etc. etc.
    You know you love me..

    Re: Thread About Running

As far as treadmill running I liked to change either the speed or incline angle on the treadmill after 1:30 minutes or so just so I would not grow accustomed to the speed or incline. Keeps your legs guessing and every time you change either speed/angle your legs instantly feel the switch off..IMO it really helped me build my legs for the irregularity that sparring consists of. Also as far as real cardio test, I just worked my way up to trying to run at the highest setting I could on a treadmill for 3 minute intervals. Since boxing is like 3 minutes of hell then I figured to attempt to train my body into running as fast as I could for a 3 minute time span with of course only 1 minute of rest between. So I'd like crank up the speed and then reset the speed down and walk off a minute then crank it up again.

Peter, good luck with your marathon training. Have you ever run a marathon before? I am training for a half marathon. Where's your race going to take place?

    Re: Thread About Running

Running is what defines me these days. It's my obsession, really.

I race distances from 5k to marathon. Just began training for my third full mary this past Monday. Just 17 weeks to go...........guhhh........

Right now, at the very beginning of the 18-week training period, my week looked like this........

Mon: 3 easy miles (9:00 pace)
    Tue: 5 easy miles
    Wed: 3 miles of hills
Thurs: 5 miles at marathon pace (for me, 8:30/mile)
    Fri: rest and beer
    Sat: 5 easy
    Tomorrow (Sunday) 10 miles easy

Eventually, I'll work up to 55 mile weeks, which is about average for a marathon plan, unless you're an elite. There will be three runs of 20-plus miles before this is over.

Actually, I like the shorter distances more. I'm best at the 5k and 8k.

Sal, you're the man. I couldn't run 55 miles in a week unless the dead came back to life and zombies were chasing me. I usually run in 10 or so races per year, ranging from 5K to 10K. In 2007 I stretched out and ran two half marathons and I had planned on running another couple of halfs in 2008 but a couple of ankle injuries threw my training off and held me to a distance of 10K. I'm hoping to be back to running halfs in 2009.

I'm not an avid runner like you are. I mix in three or four days of running per week with my training at the kickboxing gym. That training plan you have listed above is an impressive start. Keep up the good work and good luck.

Thanks meng! Good luck on the halfs too. Nothing easy about a half; long enough to truly test your stamina, but short enough to where you still have to run them fast.

    Re: Thread About Running

Just ran for the first time in about 4 months. I took cardio off ever since I took the break off boxing because the school semester started. But its winter break now and I hit the treadmil up for the first time and whats funny is that I've had a cold with congested lungs and ridiculously clogged sinus problems. Usually if I really want to effectively clear my lungs I just get a prescription for the antibiotic Prednezone from my Doc, but I jumped on the treadmil today and it fucking felt amazing. It felt like I took some seriously effective cough medicine/decongestant shit. When I was done I just hacked all my sickness up out of my lungs and sinus! God exercise is just the best Medicine period its basically free health care!
