    I just cheated on Brooks!

I went to the running shoe store today, to have them look at my gait as it had been a few years since I had that done, and I've been dealing with a few nagging injuries. I figured "What the hell, let's see what they say."

Having been a Brooks Adrenalines wearer since '05, I sort of assumed I'd be walking out of there with my first pair of the GTS 9's, which I'd been anxious to try, as I'm currently on my fourth pair of GTS 8's.

The girl there put me on the treadmill, and really broke down my stride for me; I am a pronator, but not terribly bad, and she also recommended some arch supports.

I ended up buying the Nike Zoom Elite. She thought the Adrenalines were a bit much, and felt I'd be better off with a bit lighter shoe along with the arch supports, and it was a tough choice between the Nikes and the Asics 2140's, but I went with the Nikes.

Now I feel as if I've kicked a time-honored friend to the curb. I like the new shoes, but feel almost guilty at the same time.

Anyone else have an emotional attachment to their shoes, or the brand of shoes? How often do you switch models or brands?

Peter, that looks awesome man, much more exciting than a simple jog around a couple blocks.

I will be doing the same thing as you shortly Sal, going to purchase some new shoes at the end of the month, who knows what I may come out with! I have come attached to my Nike air Pagasus, they become part of your routine, part of you infact, but Im willing to kick them to the curb if I get better results because of it, Im nasty that way!

You should do some off raod runs Ill, they are fucking brilliant fun, plus you tend to forget how tired you/how much time is left, because your too busy looking out for tree roots, branches, bogs or fallen runners lol I highly recommend them, a lot of fun.

Oh by the way, I got my finish time, 1hr 34 mins 45 secs, and I placed 108th out of 740 finishers, so pretty pleased to be honest, no official photos on the net yet, but I'll post them when the photographer gets round to putting them up on his site.

Se quedò dormida y no,apagò la vela.

Que llamen a Ibrahim Ferrer, que busquen los boberos!

Que yo creo que Tula lo que quieres es que le apaguen el fuego.

    It certainly is Jex

Oh, I forgot to answer your question about lifting weights, so here it is.

I dont really, not on my legs anyway, and only now and again for my upper body. I do circuit training every week for a whole body workout, and Hill training to strengthen my legs, you can do sprints as well, or plyometrics, all great for your legs, but I dont find it interesting enough, or beneficial enough to warrant doing them for running. If you want strong legs, to sets of Hill running, Im sure you'll know what I mean when you try it.

What are everyone's thoughts about running in the heat? I like it, as long as it's not a long run.

Last night, in 85 degree temps, I did a 6-mile tempo run at sub-8:00 pace. Tonight, in 88 degree temps I did four easy. I felt the heat, and was just pouring sweat, but I can get going a lot easier and quicker in warmer temps. For a long run, temperatures like this would be a disaster, but for shorter, even intense runs, I kind of like it.

Man, im nowhere on your level of course, but ran 1.5m in 90 degrees...that shit was absolutely brutal. Then I did my boxing shit indoors.

    I too, liked it however.

A bit like you and Ill really, I wouldnt fancy running a half marathon in really hot weather, otherwise I quite like it, just like I enjoy running in the rain. In fact, there is no real weather I dont like to run in, come to think of it, but heat would have to the worst from a purely physical/safety point of view, but no real problems. Im off to Spain (Majorca) in mid August for 15 days, its going to be 100+ most days, but Im still planning on running, although this will be done in the morning when it isnt as hot, I might re-evaluate this post when I get back!

I think my preference is like yours, Sal. Heat's okay for short runs, but it takes too much out of me on the long runs.

How do you guys feel about cold? I ran a 5K once when it was 8 degrees Farenheit and windy. I don't know what the wind chill factor was. I ran a 10K once on Thanksgiving when it was 17 degrees. The worst part about running in the cold is AFTER the race. I don't usually notice it while I'm running, but it hits me hard once I'm cooling down after the race.
