I know EXACTLY what you mean. In 2007 I drove down to Dayton, Ohio for the Air Force Half Marathon. It's about a three and a half hour drive. I spent the night in Dayton the night before the race, but decided to drive back to Detroit right after the race. I was so stiff and sore by the time I got home I could hardly walk.![]()
Half marathon Sunday, looking forward to it, might go for a PB, so looking for around 1hr 35 mins or so, who knows though, I could bomb it on the day and feel like shit, weeked after, i had an old friend of mine ring, hes doing a mountain marathon, Snowdon, in Wales, so Im going out for a 10-12 mile hill training run with him and 6 others, make a change running with others for once!
Sounds great Peter, go get 'em!
I think you might find a bit of fun running with others. It's definitely motivating. You find yourself pushing harder than you normally would.

Yeah, running continuously on your own, its sometimes hard to push yourself that bit harder/further/faster, so with some others it may help push me that bit harder which will only be a good thing right?I only know one of the guys I will run with next week, just hope they arent too quick for me!
Well, did the half this morning, good drive up to the event, took me over 2 hours to get back though! Run went well, thought I had ran it faster than I have done before, but my unofficial time was 1 hr 39 mins, have to wait to see what the official time is tomorrow or tuesday.
Got my race result already, sent through by text would you beleive!
1 Hour 38 Mins 46 seconds, I came 214th out of 2020, not too bad, although I feel shite now!
Not got a race for a while now, just training for now.
Hows your running going guys?
Pretty badass time, Peter. I'll never be that fast. That two-hour car ride had to make your legs a little grumpy!
Did a 14-miler today at the park in preparation for my own half in two weeks with the ragtag group of runners from work. I'm proud of them, they've all really applied themselves and worked hard. They're as ready as they can be, and I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them break two hours.
Personally, I'm shooting for sub-1:49:00, but it's been two years since I've done one of these, and it's never been my best distance. We'll see.
Cheers SalI actually thought I ran it in a PB, (Under 1 hr 37 mins) but it wasnt to be. Yep, the car drive was not ideal to say the least, plus it was a hot day today, which made the car journey worse!
Good to see you getting others involved in running, it truely is a great sport/endevour. Im sure your capable of going sub 1 hr 49 min Sal.
I actually started slower today and finished faster for once, not sure which I prefer more, although I felt really good up until 9 miles, then had a little lull, but by 11 I decided to kick on, must have overtaken about 50 people in the last 2 miles, but the PB wasnt to be today. Until next time...
Well, you know you're capable of faster, it's just a matter now of dialing it in and monkeying around a bit with different paces until you know how fast you can go for X number of miles without redlining and still be able to finish strong. It's a process, as you know.........
