Good job, guys. Keep up the good work. Peter, sorry to hear about the flu, hopefully, that's all it is.

Sal, your story about missing out on a medal buy one second reminds me of a Physical Fitness test I took in the Army. The test consisted of pushups, situps, and a two mile run. You got points for each event. A perfect score was 300 points. I maxed out the pushups and situps (Man, I was in shape back then) but I was 5 SECONDS too slow on the two mile run to get that 300. I finished at 13 minutes and 5 seconds, which gave me 299 points, when a 13:00 flat time would have given me 300.

Sure wish I could still run a 6:30 mile pace today.

I've got a 10K coming up on July 25. Still training to do that half marathon in September.

You're making me feel guilty Peter.........I really should do more hills, I just hate them so much. The pity of it is, I live on the top of the mother of ALL hills.......a full mile long at about a 15-20 degree angle. F-ing brutal.

Let me know how the intervals go. Interested to see how you like those.

Im going to attempt my longest ever run this saturday morning, 16 miles! Wish me luck fellas. Got my new hydration pack (Camel Pack) which will come in useful on this long run, just got to make sure I take a energy drink too, and perhaps some sweets!

Ah, you'll be fine. Running a half the way you do, this won't be as physically taxing. You will most likely find that you don't need all the goodies you plan to bring along, but for the first time out, why not?

They have "GU" there, I presume, or some energy gel? You might bring a couple of those, they really do work. You might try one out beforehand though as they do upset some stomachs.

    Re: Thread About Running

Well, I did 15 this morning, and it wasnt fun. I still ached from circuit training on wednesday, especially my hamstrings and inner thigh, and after about 3.5 miles, I knew it was going to be tough. But, I toughed it out, did 15, and I'm feeling it now I can tell you, but its another milestone achieved I guess. I could have run a few more miles, but my route took me straight back to my place! Glad I did it though, have a 10 mile race next weekend, that should feel like a walk in the park compared to this weekends run, might give circuits a miss though mid-week, just do some gentle runs instead. I am intent on beating my time last year in this race, 1 hr 12 mins, aiming for at least 1 hr 10 mins, so hopefully it will go well!

That's great, Peter. Finishing in the top 20% is good for any race. Way to go.

I have been inconsistent with my running lately. I ran a 5K Race that serves as a fund raiser for military veterans on Sunday. I was running on about three hours of sleep, because I was out of town the day before working as a cornerman on a kickboxing card and got back at 2:00 AM, but I managed to finish in the top half of the field.

I've had to adjust my training plan and race schedule, but I hope to have a strong finish in the second half of the year.

    Re: Thread About Running

I got in some good roadwork yesterday, running the 10K (6.2 miles) Turkey Trot in Detroit. I was SLOW, because I hadn't really been training for it, but I kept up a steady pace and finished the whole thing. I'm a little sore today, though.

The day before the race, I was debating whether to run the 10K or the shorter 5K. I heard two voices in my head. The first was Bernard Hopkins saying, "Run the 10K, Sam. You have to put in some hard work to get the benefits. Running that short race is a punk thing to do." The second voice was Chris Arreola saying, "Man, why are you even thinking about running? Let's go to McDonalds and get about five Big Mac each."

    Fortunately, I listened to Hopkins.
