    keep freezing up

hi i am new to the site and have only been boxing a couple of months, I have started sparring and do alright but if i get hit once i tend to freeze up and stop moving or punching back, i just hold my gaurd and the other guy just unloads on me. I know what to do and can do it whilst shadow boxing or on the bags, where my head movement is alright but as soon as i get hit by a real person i just go to peices. My trainer says it will come with time but are their any drills or exercises i can do on my own as i am begining to loose all confidense. Any help would be great as being punched in the face is bad but i am paying for it.

Hello Booker , My name is coach Garry of Middle Georgia Amateur Boxing club. There is a pre-requisite to everything, some say you have to just dive in until you get comfortable, but I would recommend you to do some partner drills, because you may not be use to getting touched and firing back. Partner drills are a good way for two green fighters to practice see-process-react you can play defense effectively while your partner throw punches at you at a moderate pace. For instance you can do a left hand drill with your partner, you and your partner can throw everything off of the left hand, left hook, left jab, and left uppercut while playing defense against the left hand.

you need to loosen up limber up a little more, shadow box a couple of rounds before you start to spar, when you are in the ring throw a jab,jab and then boom a right, just be calm and follow your instincts, when you see a punch coming slip to the left, or move to the right, jab, jab again, left hook, right cross, hook, jab
