Seriously, have you ever thought that hardcore boxing purists are as unique in some ways as the guys who take part in the sport? There isn't another sport I'd rather watch by a long shot, or another topic I'd rather post at an internet site about, or another conversation I'd rather have with another person at a party in most cases than about boxing.
In fact most of the time I'm doing something else boxing is never far from the mind. I make lists of fighters at work. Potential h2h matchups circle around my brain constantly. And its been like this for years, on and off at least. I guess I could watch MMA, but it isn't as pure of a sport as boxing is to me, and the guys participating in it aren't the type of personalities that make boxing intriguing. It also doesn't have the history. |

You know recently I started looking around for good NFL forums with decent conversations. And its very dull...Why? Because all other team sports come down to statistics, and no Analysis. Boxing has the 1on1 value and the finesse to take apart piece by piece and analyze. You can't do that with other sports even with MMA, since there are so many variables that go into an MMA fight it just makes it kind of odd to analyze. Boxing is unique in the fact that it is simple enough, yet deep enough of a sport with a lot of variety at the same time...Nothing else like it. |

oh nice good call, Tennis is a 1 on 1 sport and now that I think of it it would offer some good forum discussion. But team sports...Nothing much to talk about other than numbers.

Basketball would be the sport I will be talking about. Probably going out all the time and spending money. I think boxing has relaxed me alot and I found myself with it. Honestly I would probably be a straight A student is it wasnt for boxing.

Yeah man, boxing is so fascinating and deep that you can analyze endless amounts of topics, so it's always on my mind.. a lot of times so much that interferes with things like homework.
I have an addictive personality and that's probably the reason why I got so obsessed with it. Also, it was the first sport I was exposed to a lot as a kid so that probably added to it. But I can't see myself ever getting this into another sport, not even close. I don't even watch any other sports anymore unless my friends watch them. Team sports are especially boring to me. I play hockey and know a lot of people obsessed with it, but I could care less about the teams because that's all they are really, teams.. not people that you follow throughout their entire careers as they have matches where losses/wins directly affect their lives. I think 90% of people watch major team sports mostly because it's a social thing to do, not because they actually love it. I don't think I'll ever stop being a hardcore boxing fan, but who knows, people change and maybe I'm wrong. Shit, just three years ago, if someone told me that I would be a lot more obsessed with boxing than guitar/music, I would think they're insane. But I see guys on here who have been hardcore into the sport for 20+ years, so I could easily see that too. I read the title of this thread almost as "If You Weren't a Boxing Fan, Just What The Hell Would You Be Doing with Your Life?", implying that watching boxing is your life. Now THAT's sick. If I didn't watch boxing, I probably would have more of a life. I converted some friends/family into boxing fans though, but they still have to ask dumb questions like "how can Oscar beat Pacquiao?" so that pretty much explains what kind of fans they are.

But to answer the thread; I have no clue . Probably going out more. If my friends don't want to stick around to watch a main event I will stay back to watch it. And actually I have not went out (or did anything) on a weekend night just to watch boxing. After the main event is over then I throw in some classic. This doesnt happen much anymore because I have DVR, but still its just different live. Plus there is fighters that I would never miss. Gamboa doesn't deserve to be DVR'd

Lol. What I mean is, I assume boxing is the thing you do with your free time. What other passions or sports would you guys take up. I assume most of us have a bit of an addiction to the sport, so what would take that focus in your life if not for boxing.

I wouldve probably finished school instead of dropping out of high school to get high and watch boxing and post on boxing boards all day.

Being a boxing fan doesn't interfere with my work or personal life, so I'd probably be more into MMA, NBA, and baseball than I am now.
