Earlier today I was at the other forum posting there for the first time in a very long time and there was a thread there which was titled "Paulie Malignaggi has no future in boxing:true or false?"
And I voted false that he does'nt have a future in boxing but I could'nt exactly explain why but Kirk made a post in the thread, and I agree with it 100% so here it goes and please tell me what you think. "i know this sounds drastic... but im not into fighters taking beatings for just money. He is a good talker, has good looks, is young.... i say retire, and get into being a boxing writer/analyst for a boxing site/mag and eather showtime or hbo... maybe try to get a position in GBP... ect. Hes proven hes a good fighter, he rose to a spot in the sport where most people who lace up the gloves will never get to, made some decent money, showed he was a tough bastard... have only lost to future HOF'ers... Hes not going to be champion at 140... i think torres, holt, judah, witter, bradley all beat him.... what is the point really? I say retire... but im just not a fan of fighters fighting on for really no reasons, ESPECIALLY a guy like malignaggi... hes young still, hes a good looking guy, good talker.. he has so much more he can fall back on. The other deciding factor is he will NEVER have a short night in a fight... he can never have a 'punchers chance', you know? so ya... i say call it a succesful career and retire. Go to another avenue within boxing" |

I think Paulie should give it 1 more shot at fighting some of the other folks. He has too much pride to go out just yet, and although I see the other guys beating him I think he should give it a shot still. But if he gets his ass beat again then I'd say hang it up and use his smarts somewhere in the boxing game.

yeah thats for sure the truth. Especially with all these tough guys at 140lbs. Could you imagine what Victor Ortiz would do to Malignaggi? Victor is someone I can't wait gets his shot because he has KO'd his last 7 opponents and really has never been defeated. His 1 loss is a disqualification. This guy is a great puncher at 140 lbs.

Could he make 135? But I agree with that post a lot. He could be a good movie star imo. What about a reality show the Mallinagi's. He has a good future for sure. But McGirt still shouldn't have threw that towel in lol

I never thought about him making 135lbs....That could be really interesting for him...Might suit him a bit better...But who would you favor him over at 135lbs?

I think that is a terrible post.
Malignaggi has lost to only two top level fighters. He is only just entering the prime of his career, and still has plenty of time to learn and improve. Become a boxing analyst??? Why would a genuine top fighter in the division want to become an analyst for? That is just ridiculous. He is still in a position where he can earn some great money from his skills, and set himself up for life after boxing. Of course Malignaggi has a future in the sport. You don't need to be a p4p elite to be a boxer. Just because he lost a fight, doesn't mean he is finished, not even close. As far as taking beatings, that is just laughable it really is. His style is based around not getting hit, its not like your talking about Katsidis or someone here. I don't agree with any of it. |

I wouldn't agree that he should retire if he still has passion for boxing. He took a beating in this fight, but Hatton is one of the best 140 pounders out there, with a style that Paulie can't do well against for the most part. With that logic, why should any young guy who can speak well and do other work be fighting? He's still a top 5 or at least a top 10 fighter in his division.. there are still matchups to be made and money out there for him in this. He hasn't taken too much punishment in his career, so the health risk isn't worse for him than any other fighter. If he enjoys boxing, is good enough to be in the top 10, is only in the middle of his career, and is somewhat of a name fighter, why should he quit right now? He's a fighter and fighters sometimes have to take beatings, doesn't mean he should retire after taking a big one.

MSTR and Igor I think the point that you guys are missing is that Paulie looks at himself as a guy who is going to be a top p4p fighter and anything less is a failure on his part, that's part of his personality and he even said recently that he is hard on himself and the thing is which top 140 pounder does Paulie beat?.....I say none IMO.

Paulie gives none of those fighters you mentioned any problems at all, first off he is not slick and does'nt have much to his skills set other than a good jab. Diaz and Marquez both whoop his ass, Katsidiz he can possibly beat but I would'nt even bet on that.

So because Paulie is an emotional guy and hates to lose more than someone like Ngoudjo he should quit? Just the fact that he hates to lose more than an Ngoudjo or Cherry shows how much passion he has left for the sport and how much he wants to and should continue. It's a positive thing. It's not like he's some unstable emotional wreck who's walking around after the fight on the verge of committing suicide. He got emotional when the fight ended, but in the press conference he accepted the loss more and looked a lot more okay with it.. a few weeks later, it won't be as big of a deal, a year and a few wins later, it will be even less of an issue. Why would it be beneficial for Paulie to accept his role as not being the best 140 pounder? He can still make pretty good money, a lot more than some of the other fighters on his level and he has the drive to be at his best. There's absolutely no reason why he should retire in this situation. The emotional argument makes no sense to me.. but whatever. I guess we can just agree to disagree because we're looking at it differently and not really going anywhere.
