Nothin out of the ordinary and admittedly this is a bit of a rant, but just a fun thread really!
Saw 24/7 earlier and Oscar goes something like 'this fight is just so exciting, who knows whats gunna happen, he is coming up two weight divisions and im coming down in weight. He's a great fighter but im coming to fight in there' He says this shit with the fakest smile ever, and whats sad about this is that Oscar knows that real fans and purists alike are watching this but he simply doesnt care. Anyhow, because he made my blood boil, i just would like to express what i think would happen if he squared up against these former welterweight (and other weight) practicioners- Duran brutalises him (stoppage) Leonard finishes him and lays him out with a beautiful combo. Robinson has him wondering if he is trapped in a tornado. Basilio works his ass overtime. As soon as Walker shows what he's about Oscar wants no part and bangs the floor a la Hopkins. Gavilan shows that Oscar is not a poor man's version of himself, but a poverty stricken man's version, bettering him in every facet of their game. Napoles shuts him out. Hearns humbles him. Williams gives him a set with the Ring's reporters. Walcott shows him what the championship rounds are all about. Benitez frustrates the helll out of him. Locche has the crowd in a frenzy oohing and aahhhing. Griffith takes it clearly. He doesnt get close to Benny. Gans takes the Michael. Ortiz' bodywork proves too much. He quickly learns that he's not up to Armstrong/Pryor type action. Well im glad ive got that off my chest. Thanks for listening guys

Calm down Tito and yes Oscar is fake. Watch the Beyond the Glory with Tito. He was walking to the back after the fight. He was cursing and sounded like he wanted to say "damn essay" but they had him on film.
But I'm one of the few that beleives that he would be able to compete with the greats. I'm not saying he would win, but compete. |

Haha, its okay Smooch, it was just a fun thread on my part. Ive seen that Beyond the Glory, i know ive went over the top with some of the points i made, like i said, just messing around a bit. It used to come up every now and again on ESB, and i always voiced my opinion that he would never beat the highest level 'elite' level of welters, which really is naturally what he is.

I like Oscar a lot and I'm only mad about his latest choices. Truth be told he really is in a postion to fight anyone he wants. But I just feel he messes us better fighters for his oppenets

I really cant say i like the man unfortunately, and i do mean unfortunately because i consider myself a purist who respects and admires what all fighters do, great or no. I just feel he's attempted to trick the world into thinking he's a greater fighter than he has been over the years.
This is becoming a rant on my part now, i'll stop. |

Agreed. Tho I think probably most...if not all the fighters mentioned should be favored vs a prime Oscar, but there was definately some embellishing for effect on the lack of a chance he has on any of them.
Remember, this is a guy who has fought Paez, Leija, Hernandez, Chavez, Whitaker, Camacho, Rivera, Quartey, Trinidad, Mosely x2, Gatti, Carr, Castillejo, Vargas, Campas, Sturm, Hopkins, Mayorga, Mayweather and now Pacman... Say what you want about his business techniques or his demeanor outside of the ring during promotions...but he has been a WONDERFUL fighter...and would be at the least VERY competative with most of the fighters that have come through his weight classes! I dont think I can think of very many fighters that I would think would just blow him out the water. |

Hey man I think I was one of the few who had it a close fight at the time. I think around the 7TH H op began to take control and fight his fight. But Oscar never backed down

If i do recall correctly (then again i was smashed on JD & coke during the fight) there were some rounds that could have gone either way. The judge that had De La Hoya up was an idiot wrapped in a moron.
