Default Does the fight tomorrow tell us anything about Williams?

Will it reveal anything at all? Phillips was not competitive with Spinks IMO, despite the win. If Williams say, stops him in the 5th after dominating him, what does this tell us? And if he struggles, what do you think? If he loses, well.............

Phillips is tough, but Williams should definitely not struggle with him. A tougher than expected fight might raise some questions about Williams and his ability to leapfrog around weight classes. If he looks good, especially if he stops Verno, I think it has to be looked at as impressive. Just my two cents...

I wouldn't say Phillips wasn't competitive with Spinks, he definitely was.. he just didn't deserve to win the fight. Also, Spinks had a bad night and I'm pretty sure he was having problems with his team and personal problems at the time.

I'm expecting Williams to take risks and get caught with some nice punches here and there in the earlier rounds, but I doubt he will drop anything more than one round or Phillips will make it into the championship rounds. If Phillips does win a few rounds, then Williams' performance should probably be judged as a disappointment, because there's no reason to struggle with an old fighter like Phillips if you're a near-elite. If Phillips lasts the distance, it would really speak volumes about Williams' power and his ability to wear a fighter down. Phillips was hurt multiple times and barely survived against Ouma and I think that was about four years ago. Williams should be able to stop him by the middle rounds, maybe earlier if he catches him with some consecutive flush combos early on. If Williams blasts Phillips out in two rounds or something like that, it will be impressive and exceed expectations.. so he could make himself look better than ever on Saturday despite being in there against a C+/B- opponent.

Williams will get the KO in 6 rounds or less. This fight will not be competitive.

Paul should beat him pretty easily.

As for Spinks the dude was weighing in at 190 before the fight with Phillips. He took him lightly, but should have got the W

I'm looking forward to the fight...sure Williams has certain advantages that would make the results look like a forgone conclusion, but the heart and skill of Verno combined with the chance of Paul having a bad night...could lead to who knows what.

The fact that he is Willing to take a fight against a top 10 154 pounder with his last fight not being 3 months (not only that his last fight was at 160) tells me that he is great for boxing.

Manny Pacquiao is the most extreme example in recent times. This year he's fought from 130-147.

Igor brought up Pac who is a good example, but it's definitely a rare feet. Add to it the fact that Williams fought four times this year and you can definitely mark him down as an old school fighter.
