5 fucking years?!?!?!?!? Barrera is my all time fav, but he doesnt need to comtinue, especially under the banner of that prick King. The worst night of my Boxing life was wathing Barrera get a beatdown by Pac in their first meeting, I dont want to witness Barrera recieve any more punishment than he should.

I'm with Peter on this one...5 years?

Awful, awful news. Okay, he's earned the right to fight if that's what he wants to do, but he's running on empty and certainy won't be able to beat the top level fighters at 135. A better option, aside from retirement of course, would be to return to 130 and face guys like Valero and Arthur.

He IS running on empty, he pot shots these days, his output is pretty poor, and he doesnt seem to want to engage in any way. He has become a safety first fighter now, and against the younger, perhaps hungrier, fighters, Im not sure his style these days will get him the results he wants. Perhaps he knows something we dont, but Im actually against this move.

Brook, how would you have him doing against Valero and Arthur, if he did go back down to 130 instead? And what do you know about Yusuke Kobori if he were to fight him?

Terrible news, this will end badly for Barrera. We all know King has no shame in dragging out relics though.

One year ago today, I would have said Barrera beats both. However, it's been what? 10 months since he last fought, and it's not like he's been in the gym staying sharp from the pictures I've seen of him. Maybe Valero's youth and hunger prevail over the old lion, maybe Barrera still has the ability to take advantage of Valero's mistakes and the reflexes to avoid his wide shots. Tough call.

Don't know anything about Yuseke Kobori.

I saw this and still can't believe it. Hopefully it's not true and if in fact he did sign with King, hopefully it's for a year, not five. But even a year would be very sad to see. Barrera needs to stay retired, this is horrible.

I must say I find the "five year" bit somewhat spurious. Fighters normally sign for a defined number of fights as opposed to a number of years.
